Managing and maximizing one’s time is difficult for almost anyone in today’s fast-paced world. However, those who work remotely have unique challenges, causing being productive a job of its own.
Below are some tips to keep you on track and make the most of your time while working from home.
Schedule work time when you are least distracted and most on point. For example, I know that early-morning hours are the best for me because my kids are asleep, the house is quiet, and my brain is better focused. Know what works for you, and if you’re unsure, experiment with different times until you’ve come up with the perfect schedule.
Create two lists for each day: one list for things you must get done and one list for tasks you’d like to get done but can wait for another day. Doing so will keep you on track and help you feel more accomplished and positive.
While working from home won’t prevent you from staying away from technology, keeping disconnected from personal social media , phone calls, and email as much as possible while working will help you stick to your schedule and keep you focused.
Make it Count
When you’re faced with even a few minutes of free time in between tasks, ask yourself, “What can I get done?” Using those spare minutes can help you to check off even more items from your to-do list (and maybe even some from to-do list #2).
Although their are many ways to manage your time throughout the day, remember that life happens. No matter how prepared you are for the day, you may occasionally have to adjust your schedule to fit your immediate needs.
Working remotely takes a bit of planning, excellent time management, and a great deal of flexibility. When the day does not go as planned, remind yourself why you chose to work from home in the first place and be kind to yourself. Tomorrow is a new day.
